Practical and aesthetically appealing Vincent Timber Western Red Cedar (thuja Plicata) shingles are the perfect choice for any home, both inside and out. Their resistance to weather and decay and the fact that they are CCA treated to BS4072 make these shingles ideal for exterior roofs and walls. As an insulator shingles will keep a building warm in winter and cool in summer, thereby reducing heating costs. At the same time, the beautiful rich colour tones of Western Red Cedar shingles will add charm to any building with the only effect of ageing and weathering being the gradual change of colour to an attractive silver grey. Shingles are fixed regularly on such diverse buildings as schools, churches, pavilions, domestic homes, community centres and many other countless buildings with little or no maintenance. Vincent Timber Western Red Cedar shingles are imported from Canada and North America from renewable source forests as Certigrade No 1 Grade Blue Label XXXXX, being 400mm in length and random in width ranging from 75mm-320mm which is the premium grade of shingle being 100% heartwood, 100% clear and 100% edge grain. Strict grading rules and rigid inspection programmes are followed in order to maintain the high quality of Vincent Timber Products. (see shingles certificate).

Because of the slow growth range of Western Red Cedar, the annual rings are exceptionally close together, which results in fine evenly grained wood. Western Red Cedar shingles lie flat and tight on a roof, are very lightweight and are extremely durable, due to a resistance to decay unsurpassed by any other Canadian/North American softwood species. When properly applied to the correct gauge and using either silicone bronze or stainless steel nails, cedar shingles have been found to withstand hurricane force winds and rain for up to 50 years.

Energy conserving: The cellular structure of Western Red Cedar retards the passage of heat and cold and each cell acting as an insulating agent. Timber roofing and siding has the highest insulation value of any of the timber substitutes. Timber has 413 times the thermal resistivity (R value) of steel, 2,000 times that of aluminium and 8 times that of concrete. The world's energy supplies are dwindling, therefore we must use products that consume less energy in their manufacture and help conserve energy when used. Emissions from gas and oil used in the production of steel have increased dramatically since the 1950's and have contributed significantly to acid rain, killing our trees and wildlife. Aluminium production results in 8 times the air emissions and 300 times the water consumption as timber production. Concrete production is estimated to emit almost 3 times more carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons and produces 5 times more solid waste than the production of timber. Shingles are one tenth of the weight of traditional roofing materials making them an attractive alternative for domestic dwellings and commercial projects. Futhermore, their low thermal conductivity (K=0, 1067 W/m degrees C at 12% moisture content), the lowest of any roofing material currently available, makes for a very warm roof.
