Sustainability and ESG

Vincent Timber is at the forefront of the campaign to protect the environment. It is at the core of our business from our offices, our vehicles, our timber and our production.

Doing our part.

We work with the only truly renewable resource, wood, and ensuring we are a key part of this renewability is vital to the future of not only our business but our planet. This is why we are proud of our Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification awarded by the PEFC Council – an organisation which promotes sustainably managed forests through third party certification. This means you can be assured all timber purchased from us is from responsibly sourced forests.

And if that’s not enough, being one of the first companies in the UK to be awarded Chain of Custody should reassure all our customers. Chain of Custody refers to the ability to track wood from the time it leaves the forest through the processing and marketing channels to the final consumer. It means we can verify that a certified product genuinely comes from a certified source. In some cases, labelling is used to identify these certified forest products.

Our journey to net zero

The journey so far has resulted in the implementation of a biomass burner, which heats our offices and production facility using our waste materials; whilst any surplus shavings are used locally for animal bedding. We also have electric vehicles onsite and our lorries, which are all clean emissions compliant, are refuelled at base to reduce mileage travelling to fuelling stations. All our lighting is also energy efficient with motion sensors ensuring less unnecessary light pollution. While most recently, we replaced our burner with an eco-friendly air plants system, cutting our energy consumption in half.

Plus, did you know, timber as a building material is much more ecological than materials such as concrete or steel? This is because it actually captures carbon from the atmosphere and stores it, even though the tree is no longer alive. See how much carbon each species can sequester using our carbon calculator.

Calculations and figures based on 1m3 quantity of timber and are from a third-party website. To calculate the fixed CO2 in your wood products yourself or for more information about the creation of the calculation, you can visit here.
