The project uses thermally modified, fire‑treated Ayous timber cladding to align with the nursery’s nature centric style of learning and development, seamlessly blending with the school’s dedicated forest feature which immerses the children in nature.
Selected for its stability, consistency and refined appearance, the timber enhances the building’s curved form, creating a wonderful, cohesive façade. The vertical installation also compliments the building’s height and rhythm while offering a warm, approachable aesthetic, well suited to a nursery environment.
Sustainability was a key driver in both design and material selection. Ayous was chosen as a well‑considered cladding solution due to its FSC® certification and favourable performance characteristics. The thermal modification process significantly improves durability and dimensional stability, reducing the risk of movement and minimising maintenance requirements over the building’s lifespan. Integrated with a highly insulated SIPs structure, the timber façade contributes to the overall thermal efficiency of the building, supporting a low‑energy, future‑ready solution.
