European Larch
Imported European Larch for Timber Cladding, with exceptional strength, a warm colour, and displaying a straight and fine grain creating an elegant and distinguished look
Key preoperties
European Larch is typically sourced from mainland Europe, around the Alps, or Black Forest in Southern Germany. A popular species to be used for timber cladding, much like Siberian Larch was previously.
With the trees growing in these colder conditions at altitude, a slow growth rate is ensured. The long winter rest increases the density of the logs and will generally create a superior product.
The heartwood is a pale reddish-brown to brick-red in colour, sharply defined from the narrow, lighter-coloured sapwood. It is a very resinous wood, with clearly marked annual rings, a straight grain, and a fine, uniform texture. It is rather heavy, weighing 600 kg/m3 when dried, suited for timber cladding in schools, or commercial projects where there could be a high footfall and potential for knocks and scuffs to the material.
A moderately durable timber, perfectly suited to be used in external timber cladding applications. Left uncoated, European Larch weathers down to a silver/ grey (patina) appearance.

Fixings
Stainless Steel fixings are recommended, reducing the opportunity for any extractives or tannins from the timber to react with the fixing. Either screws, or nails are suitable, this will be led by the requirements for your specific project.
We provide full fixing and installation information including batten specification, as an overview the following guidance should be met:
Nail or screw dimensions should be relative to the thickness of the board you are installing and be able to adequately secure the cladding. Annular ring shank fixings are recommended for softwood cladding:
