Thermally Modified Radiata Pine
Produced from plantation Radiata Pine, this almost knot free/ clear grade product is created through the chemical-free thermal modification process. Part of our Elements Collection®, Thermo-Radiata is a class 1 durable timber cladding.
Key properties
Thermally modified Radiata Pine, as the name would suggest, is produced using only heat and steam. This process is carried out on sustainable plantation grown Radiata Pine from New Zealand, forming part of our Elements Collection®. This plantation grown timber yields the large logs required for the product within 30 years.
The thermal modification process works by heat treating the timber to temperatures in excess of 200 degrees centigrade through various heating and cooling cycles. During this cycle, chemical and structural changes occur within the timber which alter and improve its characteristics.
After going through the environmentally-friendly treatment process, the timber will have darkened in colour from its pre treated state, to a golden brown when freshly produced. The timber is now more stable than normal wood in conditions of changing humidity and its thermal insulation properties are improved. This makes it ideal for use in exposed areas such as external timber cladding.
Thermally modified Radiata timber cladding is almost entirely defect free, providing a very clear board suited for contemporary timber cladding installations.
