Thermowood Pine
Modification with no chemicals! Thermowood Pine timber cladding is part of our Elements Collection® – produced through the environmentally friendly process of heat treating at temperatures of 212°C.
Key properties
The raw material (including, but not limited to) European Redwood/Whitewood, Scandinavian Pine/Spruce, is widely sourced in the north-west of Norway, spreading east through northern Europe. Thermowood Pine forms part of our Elements Collection® and is produced by heat treating the timber to temperatures of 212°C.
During this heat treatment process, chemical and structural changes occur within the timber which alter and improve its characteristics. After going through the environmentally-friendly treatment process, Thermowood is created. It will have darkened in colour from its pre-treated state.
The timber’s dimensional stability is now enhanced due to the reduced moisture content within each board. This in turn results in less warping, swelling, and shrinking – all characteristics that make Thermowood Pine ideal for use as timber cladding. Being more stable than unmodified timber, it is ideal in conditions of changing humidity and its thermal insulation properties are improved, ideal for use in exposed areas.
Long term, the maintenance required of Thermowood Pine timber cladding is also reduced. With its enhanced durability and resistance to rot, the ongoing maintenance will be far less than with the un-modified timber cladding. This is part is down to the thermal modification process removing the resins from the wood.

Fixings
The use of corrosion-proof steel fastenings that conform to EN 10088-1 is recommended such as A2, A4 quality stainless steel.
We provide full fixing and installation information including batten specification, as an overview the following guidance should be met:
Nail or screw dimensions should be relative to the thickness of the board you are installing and be able to adequately secure the cladding. Annular ring shank fixings are recommended for softwood cladding.
